Cabarrus Elections is an independent project, not affiliated with any political party, candidate, or government organization.
Ethos
Citizens have a responsibility to be participants in their community, not passive consumers of politics, but active caretakers of democracy. Informed voting is the most basic way to begin fulfilling this duty. Our votes are not something to be earned through a catchy phrase, party affiliation, or campaign postcard, but an affirmative decision we are making. Not voting doesn’t absolve us of responsibility for the outcome; it means we neglected our duty to shape it.
Voting is more than a right. Informed voting is our obligation.
Behind the site
I’m Corey. I made Cabarrus Elections.
Thoroughly researching candidates before elections is important. It’s also hard. Local elections especially can include dozens of candidates you’ve never heard of, yet these are the people on the ballot who can have the most impact on our day-to-day lives.
Before voting I do my best to research candidates, but good information is often spread across Facebook pages, campaign websites, a few questionnaires... It’s a lot.
This year I decided to take the research I normally do, turn it up a notch, and create Cabarrus Elections to share it with the community. You won’t find much original content here. It’s not a one-stop shop, but it is, I hope, the best starting point, with links to multiple candidate questionnaires, social media, campaign websites, local news, and any other resource I can find that may help people make informed decisions.
This is the first year of Cabarrus Elections; it won’t be the last. I plan to keep building this out. If you see any errors, know of missing resources, or think I am showing bias, send me an email to the address below.
